Executive Director, Public Relations, Community and Cultural Affairs
Since joining Bergen in 2007, Larry Hlavenka, Ed.D., has worked to deliver innovative outreach campaigns for the advancement of the institution, including by pursing progressive communication strategies through digital, social and traditional media. His commitment to developing relationships with the College’s internal and external communities has fostered an enhanced awareness of the institution and its students. These philosophies continue to guide his efforts as he provides leadership for the Office of Public Relations, Office of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the College’s digital assets.
Under Dr. Hlavenka’s leadership, the College has earned eight National Council for Marketing & Public Relations District 1 Medallion Awards. Inside Bergen, the institution’s official newsletter, received first place honors among 650 colleges in 2016, while Studio Bergen, the College’s television program, received first place honors in 2017, and the $50 for 50 fundraising campaign received first place honors in 2018.
He graduated from Rowan University with a B.A. in communication/public relations and a political science minor. Dr. Hlavenka earned an M.S.M. from Thomas Edison State College and an Ed.D. in community college leadership from National American University.
